BachelorPROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
- The school recruits international students in spring and autumn
- Divided into classes alone taught in English. When becoming a senior, they can take the same class with Chinese students.
- Opportunity to exchange learning and gain the growth in knowledge. In their third year, students can choose our partner universities such as Canada, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Russia, in exchange of learning for one semester.
- An immersion week every year. It’s professor who will lead students to visit enterprise and then have a group discussion during this period. Immersion week will end with carrying out a speech about this activity.
- Perfect student management system. The university has set up a marketing department, student service department as well as educational administration for international students. The Student Union serves more than 200 international students from the International Business College.
- Start regular lectures the Senior Executives give, which promotes students to obtain the latest business information.
- There are internship bases between school and enterprises.
History
In September 1961, the Department of Asian and African Languages was founded at BFSU in a mission to strengthen the friendly exchanges with Asian and African countries. Swahili and Hausa were among the early-established majors.
In September 2019, the School of African Studies was founded to facilitate the teaching of African languages and African studies. Currently, the school teaches Swahili, Hausa, isiZulu, Amharic, Malagasy at undergraduate level. It also offers a number of optional courses on African languages, such as Somali, Shona, Kinyarwanda, Kirundi, Afrikaans, Tamazight, Yoruba, Sesotho, Setswana, Comorian, Ndebele, Tigrinya, Chichewa, Sango, isiXhosa.
There is also a Center on African Studies, which focuses on African Linguistics, Literature, History, Culture, Anthropology, Politics, Law and Regional Organizations. The school enrolls postgraduate, doctoral and overseas students every year on two academic programmes—African Linguistics & Literature and African Studies.
The school has established academic links with over 16 universities in Africa, and certain world-renowned African Studies institutes, including School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, the UK (SOAS) and Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales, France (INALCO).
Faculty
Over 60 years, school has made remarkable achievements in textbooks and dictionaries compilation, literature translation and area studies. Currently the school has 11 Chinese teachers, including two professors, one chair professors, and eight of them have Ph.D. degree. Apart from the Chinese academic staff, there are five long-time foreign experts.
Qualifications:
1. High school diploma and above.
2. Non-Chinese citizens who hold a foreign passport and comply with the relevant regulations set by the “Document No. 12 (2020) of Ministry of Education of the PRC ".
3. Physically and mentally healthy.
4. Applicants under 18 years old (Per September) should provide a letter of guarantee for their guardian in China (notarization required).

3. Language Certificates
- English Taught: IELTS with an overall score of 5.5/6.0 or TOEFL IBT 85 (different for each university)
- Chinese Taught: HSK 4-6 (levels and minimum scores are different for each major and university)
4. High school diploma (for bachelor degree) and Bachelor or Master diploma (for master and doctoral degree), hasn’t graduated students should provide an official statement from your high school or university as proof of graduation (Pre-Graduation Statement). (bit.ly/PreGraduationLetter)

6. 2 (two) recommendation letters from your teachers in high school (for bachelor degree) and two university professors (for master and doctoral degrees) along with letterhead and stamp from the school. Please also include the email and phone number of recommenders.

8. Additional requirements that apply vary from university to university, for example:

- Documents number 4-6 above, MUST be translated into English / Mandarin, and legalized by the school or you could use the services of a sworn translator.
