MasterA Brief Introduction
Founded in 1919 by the famous patriotic educators Zhang Boling and Yan Xiu, Nankai University, located in Tianjin, is a key multidisciplinary and research-oriented university directly administered by the Ministry of Education. In 2017, the university was selected to be on the list of 42 universities and colleges that would participate in the country’s “Double First-Class” Initiative (the construction plan of world-class universities and world-class disciplines). Taking “Dedication to Public Interests, Acquisition of All-round Capability, Aspiration for Progress with Each Passing Day” as the school motto, Nankai University has cultivated a large number of outstanding talents including the founding Premier of the People’s Republic of China Zhou Enlai, the famous mathematician Chern Shiing-Shen, the physicist Wu Ta-You, and the playwright Cao Yu.
In the past 100 years, Nankai University has gradually constructed an operating pattern of “a university with three campuses” and featured a balance between the humanities and the sciences, a solid foundation and a combination of practicality and creativity. Currently, the university occupies an area of 3,750,000 m2. The university has 26 academic colleges, with disciplines covering literature, social science, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, art, etc.
Nankai University is equipped with a strong world-class faculty. Among the 2,082 faculty members, 812 are professors and 834 are associate professors, including 20 members of the Chinese Academy of Science, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and the Third World Academy of Science. Currently, the university has a total enrollment of more than 28,000 students, including 16,000 undergraduates and 12,000 master’s and doctoral students. In recent years, Nankai University’s international influence and international education levels have been increasing. There are now more than 400 full-time and part-time foreign experts, and more than 2,100 international students from 95 countries pursuing long-term study at Nankai.
Eligibility
1. Applicants must be healthy, non-Chinese citizens and foreign passport holders, with no criminal record in China.
2. Master’s degree applicants must have a bachelor’s degree
Application Materials
(1) Notarized diploma of highest level of education obtained. Applicants expecting to graduate this academic year must submit an official document issued by their current school to prove their current student status and expected graduation date.
(2) Complete academic transcripts of the highest level of education.
(3) Personal Statement, including a study or research plan, financial situation, reasons for scholarship application, honors and awards, personal strengths, etc. (no less than 800 words).
(4) Two letters of recommendation from professors or associate professors. The letters should be written in Chinese or English; the phone number and email address of the person issuing the recommendation should be included.
(5) Applicants should submit a HSK certificate (Level 4 or above). Applicants who don’t meet the language requirements must apply for one year of Chinese language studies before entering their major studies.
(6) Foreigner Physical Examination Form. The physical examinations must cover all of the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete forms, forms without the signature of the attending physician or the official stamp of the hospital, or forms without a sealed photograph of the applicant are considered invalid. Please carefully plan your physical examination schedule as the result will be valid for only 6 months.
(7) Certificate of no criminal record issued by the relevant local authority.
(8) Photocopy of passport (ordinary passport and must be valid until April 1 st , 2021 or later).
(9) The application fee receipt or payment voucher.

(10) Applicants for Chinese Confucius Institute Scholarship should submit a HSK certificate (Level 5) with a minimum score of 210 or above and a certificate of the HSKK test (Intermediate Level) with a minimum score of 60 or above.
(11) Applicants for Chinese Confucius Institute Scholarship should also submit a recommendation letter issued by a local Confucius Institute or College of Chinese Language and Culture, Nankai University.
(12) Other materials that can prove the applicants’ learning ability and comprehensive abilities, such as award certificates in sports or the arts, specialty certificates, published papers, admission notices issued by other universities, etc.
Note: All of the above application materials should either be in Chinese or English. For documents or certificates in languages other than Chinese or English, notarized Chinese or English translations are required.
