Structure Engineering
Doctoral1. Objectives Graduates in the major of structure engineering must master the basic and extensive theory, the special and systematic knowledge of the structure engineering. They must know the status and the future trend and also possess some practical experience of the engineering. What's more, they should have the rigorous scientific attitude and have the original ideas to do the scientific researches independently. Meanwhile, they are able to engage in teaching, designing or other jobs related to project and solve the practical problems of engineering independently. Students ought to master 1-2 foreign languages, can read foreign literatures expertly and have writing capability at a certain extent.
2. Program Duration The number of the years for the program lasts three years.

Wind and Earthquake Resistance and Vibration Control of Structure 3.4. Unsaturated Soil Mechanics and Application 3.5. Research of Mechanics Characteristic for New Complicated Hydraulic Structures
4. Course curriculum and Credit 4.1 Course curriculum (see the table blow) 4.2 Credit requirement: The total credits for a graduate student of PHD are no less than 20. 4.3 Publish Paper: The graduate students during the university must preside over the academic report or attend the scientific meeting at 3 times. Meanwhile, publish 3 academic papers in SCI, EI periodical sources, which at least one paper should be index by SCI, EI.

5. Scientific Research and Thesis
5.1 Open-thesis report
(1) Necessary condition: Graduates who achieve necessary credits ought to submit literature reading report upwards 8,000 words or 2-3 seminar reports.
(2) Requirement for open-thesis report: Three-year PHD candidate ought to hold the open-thesis report after one year entering the university, students for continuous academic project that involves postgraduate and doctoral study or on-job PHD candidates hold that after two years entering the university. The open-thesis report ought to include literature summary, Significance of the Subject, research contents, difficulties, expected production and innovation. And the number of referenced literatures is no less than 50.
5.2 Phase-to-phase thesis report At the metaphase of thesis, phase report and mid-assessment ought to be held to ensure the schedule of thesis.
5.3 PHD Oral Defence
(1) Pre-condition: The graduate students during the university must preside over the academic report or attend the scientific meeting at 3 times. Meanwhile, publish 3 academic papers in SCI, EI periodical sources, which at least one paper should be index by SCI, EI.
(2) Academic degree thesis check system and oral defence Implement the regulation and program of university about the application for oral defence, thesis assessment and degree-awarding system. The assessment of degree-dissertation includes technicality, innovation, validity, application and shortage of thesis. At the same time, pay attention to the blind scoring system for degree thesis of Shanghai University.
- To be eligible, applicants should be non-Chinese citizens with a valid ordinary-type passport, and in good health, and have attained the Master's degree.
- HSK 4 above 180 for Art;
- HSK 4 above 195 for Science or Engineering;
- HSK 4 above 210 for Economics or Management;
- HSK 5 above 180 for Humanities.
Note: 1. Graduates who did not receive their degree certificates at the time of application should provide pre-graduation certificates issued by their schools or colleges to prove their ability to graduate smoothly and obtain their degree certificates by July 2019 2. According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education of China, those who immigrated to other countries from the Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao or Taiwan and applying to study in Shanghai University as international students, should meet the following additional requirements: the applicants must hold valid passport or other relevant international recognized documents for at least 4 years; meanwhile, in the latest 4 years (by each April 30th of the year of University registration), the applicants must have lived overseas for 2 years (Living overseas for 9 months can be converted to 1 year, which is subject to the exit-entry stamp on visa.)
