I. Qualifications

Non-Chinese citizen in good health.

General Visiting Students: At least one year study at college or higher, pursuing an original or related major study of a certain  subject.

The No.12 Document of 2020 issued by the Ministry of Education, PRC is administered by the University. Two important items of the Document are to note. First, according to Article 5 of Nationality Law of The People's Republic of China, ‘a person whose  parents are both Chinese nationals and have both settled abroad, or one of whose parents is a Chinese national and has settled abroad, and who has acquired foreign nationality at birth shall not have Chinese nationality.’ Since 2021, those applying to study at universities or junior colleges as international students, should satisfy the following additional requirements: the applicants  must hold valid foreign passport or other relevant international recognized documents for at least 4 years; meanwhile, in the latest 4 years (by each April 30th of the year of University registration), the applicants must live overseas for 2 years (Living overseas for 9 months can be converted to 1 year, which is subject to the exit-entry stamp on visa.). Second, those who immigrated to other countries from the Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao or Taiwan and apply to study as international students at universities or  junior colleges of China are required to satisfy the requirement of the first item.

II. Application Periods

Autumn Semester: 10th March -- 31st May (for autumn semester)

Spring Semester: 10th September -- 30th November (for spring semester in the following year)

III. Application Materials 

1. A photocopy of passport (pages with photo).

2. Original or notarized academic transcripts. 

If the academic transcripts are not in Chinese or English, the notarized translated copies must be submitted. The photocopy of  the certificate or academic records should be authenticated by local Chinese Consulates or local Chinese Embassy (or foreign  embassies or consulates in China).

3. Schooling certificate or notarized photocopy of degree certificate. If the certificate is not in Chinese or English, the notarized  translated copies must be submitted.

If the academic transcripts are not in Chinese or English, the notarized translated copies must be submitted. The photocopy of  the certificate or academic records should be authenticated by local Chinese Consulates or local Chinese Embassy (or foreign  embassies or consulates in China).

4. A definite purpose and plan for advanced study

5. Recommendation letters from two scholars of associate professorship or higher for applicants of Senior Visiting Students  Program, in Chinese or English (signature and contact information are necessary, sealed in envelop).

6. Language proficiency certificate:

For Chinese-taught program:

Original certificate of New HSK Band 4 (Total Score: over 180) and its copy for the programs of Science and engineering.

Original certificate of New HSK Band 4 (Total Score: over 200) and its copy for the programs of Architecture, Management &  Economics and Medicine. 

Original certificate of New HSK Band 5 (Total Score: over 180) and its copy for the program of Liberal Arts.

For English-taught program:

For application, the minimum score of TOEFL is 80 and that of IELTS is 6.0. Certificate for English-taught degree program you have taken is also available. Native speakers of English are exempt from submitting the language proficiency certificates.

7. Certificate for application fee payment

Students who pay at the bank on-site or through bank transfer should submit the photocopy of transfer voucher or the screenshot of online transfer voucher.

Students who pay on the Application System are exempt from submitting the certificate for payment.

In addition to the above application materials, the Office may require applicants to provide supplementary materials, depending  on the circumstances. All the application materials are required to be submitted for online application. Materials that don’t match  the listed columns should be submitted to the column named Supplementary Materials.

All admitted students should bring the required original documents for further check when register. If the documents are found to be fake, your admission will be cancelled. The specific requirements will be listed in Registration Notice attached to the  admission note. Both documents will be mailed to you. Please pay close attention.

IV. Admission

The enrollment and admission mode of Tongji University is based on the assessment of the application materials and interview performance (depending on the circumstances), and no entrance examinations.
