Goals

The major cultivates Japanese speakers with interdisciplinary knowledge, professional skills, global vision, strong adaptability and great potential. Students are required to master listening, reading, writing and translating in professional Japanese and to have a good knowledge of Japanese literature, culture, history, economy and society. Graduates are expected to be competent in Japanese-related work  in the fields of foreign trade, foreign affairs, secretarial work, education, tourism and journalism, or to be capable of further study in  leading universities at home and abroad for a master's degree in subjects as literature, history, classics, philosophy and law.

General Qualifications

  1. Possess a High School Diploma or equivalent qualification.
  2. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens holding a valid foreign passport and must comply with the relevant regulations stipulated in "Document No. 12 (2020) of the Ministry of Education of the PRC."
  3. Must be in good physical and mental health.
  4. Applicants who will be under 18 years of age (as of September) must provide a notarized Letter of Guarantee from their designated guardian in China.


General Application Documents

  2. Recent Passport-Sized Photograph, formatted as follows: A recent full-faced photo (head must occupy 70% of the photo size); aspect ratio 4:3; white background without borders; size 100-500KB (*.jpg, *.jpeg). (bit.ly/ContohPhoto)
  3. Language Proficiency Certificates:
  • English Taught: IELTS with an overall score of 5.5/6.0 or TOEFL iBT 85 (requirements vary by university).
  • Chinese Taught: HSK 4–6 (levels and minimum scores vary by major and university).
  1. Academic Diplomas: High School Diploma (for Bachelor's Degree applicants) or Bachelor's/Master's Diploma (for Master's/Doctoral Degree applicants).   2. Academic Transcripts: High School Transcripts (for Bachelor's Degree) or University Transcripts (for Master's/Doctoral Degrees), compiled into a single file.   3. Two (2) Letters of Recommendation: Required from two high school teachers (for Bachelor's Degree) or two university professors/associate professors (for Master's/Doctoral Degrees). Letters must be issued on official letterhead, bear an official stamp from the institution, and include the recommender's email and phone number.
  4. Study Plan or Personal Statement: Approximately 800 words, written in English or Mandarin (corresponding to the chosen language of instruction). The statement must be clearly signed by the applicant. General guidance points are available here: (bit.ly/PoinPersonalStatement)
  5. Additional Requirements: Specific requirements vary by university. Examples include:
  • Entrance Examination/Interview.
  • Financial Statement (from Bank).

Note

  • Documents 4 through 6 MUST be translated into English or Mandarin and officially legalized by the issuing institution. Alternatively, the services of a sworn translator may be utilized.
  • Please neatly scan each document into PDF format. The file size for each document must not exceed 1 MB (the passport photograph must adhere to the specific requirements listed above). All documents must then be uploaded to the system at www.greatwall.co.id.
