BachelorDepartment of Animal Medical Sciences was established in 1934, evolved from the Department of Agricultural Zoology, National Zhejiang University. After the national adjustment of colleges in 1952, the department was integrated into some agricultural universities such as Nanjing Agricultural University etc. In 1960, the department returned to recruit students.
The department covers 3 of the second science subjects: basic veterinary, preventive veterinary and clinical veterinary. All of the subjects were authorized to award the Master Degree, among which the preventive veterinary subject has right to award the Doctor Degree. Twenty two staff members in the department include 5 professors, 10 associated professors and 6 lecturers, in which there are 10 master supervisors and 4 doctor supervisors, 7 persons possessing the Doctor Degree.
The basic veterinary, preventive veterinary and clinical veterinary groups are the main teaching institutions in the department. It consists of five laboratories belonging to the College Laboratory Center: animal anatomy lab, physiology lab, micro-morphology lab, microbiology and immunology lab and clinical veterinary lab, an animal hospital of Zhejiang University, and more than ten of .teaching practice bases outside. The research institutions are the Institute of Preventive Veterinary Medicine and the Institute of Dairy Sciences (co-constructed with other department), Zhejiang University.
The department sets one specialty of animal medical sciences for Bachelor Degree, which belongs to the second class of science with a requirement of 4-year study. The main goal is to educate the undergraduate students to grasp the basic theory, knowledge and skills of animal science. The graduated students are expected to be the adaptive, versatile and talented specialists in animal science, and capability of engaging the related works in broad fields of animal researches and production, such as veterinarian, teacher, researcher, administrator, and quarantine inspector etc.
General Qualifications
- Possess a High School Diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens holding a valid foreign passport and must comply with the relevant regulations stipulated in "Document No. 12 (2020) of the Ministry of Education of the PRC."
- Must be in good physical and mental health.
- Applicants who will be under 18 years of age (as of September) must provide a notarized Letter of Guarantee from their designated guardian in China.

- English Taught: IELTS with an overall score of 5.5/6.0 or TOEFL iBT 85 (requirements vary by university).
- Chinese Taught: HSK 4–6 (levels and minimum scores vary by major and university).
- Academic Diplomas: High School Diploma (for Bachelor's Degree applicants) or Bachelor's/Master's Diploma (for Master's/Doctoral Degree applicants). - Two (2) Letters of Recommendation: Required from two high school teachers (for Bachelor's Degree) or two university professors/associate professors (for Master's/Doctoral Degrees). Note
- Documents 4 through 6 MUST be translated into English or Mandarin and officially legalized by the issuing institution. Alternatively, the services of a sworn translator may be utilized.
