The main point of this discipline is to understand the theories, models, methods and techniques on computer architecture, information access and storage, processing and transmission, applications, and so on. The combination of the contents with specific research areas greatly favors the diversity of this discipline.

This discipline has four main research branches: Computer System Architecture, Computer Software and Theory, Computer Application Technology, and Communication System and Information Security.

According to the rules, the training program covers 3 years, including Chinese study, course study, and dissertation writing. The credits should be more about 25 (including Training Courses), in which degree courses (public degree courses and academic degree courses) require 10 credits. Credits obtained in each semester cannot be more than 15 credits (excluding training courses).

This discipline trains high-level professionals in the research areas including computer science and technology and other related fields; and equips them with a solid foundation in computer science and technology theory.

The students will master the knowledge in a systematic manner, and be familiar with the latest trends in the research areas. They should have the ability to solve practical engineering problems and engaged in scientific pursuit independently. Also, they will become competent in research, software development and management in the domain of computer science and technology and other relevant disciplines.

Situated in the famous historical and cultural city of Changsha, Central South University (CSU) is a comprehensive and national key university under the direct administration of the Ministry of Education of China. The University is among the first group admitted into both Project 211, a project of building national key universities and colleges for the 21st century, and Project 985, a joint constructive project of building world-class universities co-sponsored by the Chinese central government and local governments.

School of Information Science and Engineering was established in 2002 merged by Hunan Medical University (HMU), Changsha Railway University (CRU), and Central South University of Technology (CSUT). back to 1914 when Xiangya Medical College was founded through the joint efforts of Hunan Yuqun Society and the Yale-China Association in the United States.

Computer Science and Technology is the provincial key and featured discipline in Hunan province and is also the key discipline in Central South University. There are two provincial engineering institutes and two doctoral research mobile stations.

There are 67 professors, 38 doctoral tutors, 1 national teacher, 4 Changjiang Scholars, 4 winners of national excellent youth foundation and 10 experts enjoying the special government allowances.

The specialties can be conducted in English with a prerequisite of a minimum number of 10 students for Master\'s degree.
