Preparatory education in Beijing Language and Culture University enjoys a long history with very outstanding academic achievements. Over the past 50 years, tens of thousands of international students, with solid Chinese language skills, strong adaptability in professional learning and high-level intercultural communication competence, have graduated from our university and sought their further study in renowned national colleges and universities such as Beijing University, Tsinghua Univeristy, Renmin University of China and Nanjing University. One of the famous alumni, Mulatu Teshome Wirtu, who learned the preparatory courses in our school (1976-1977), was elected as the president of Ethiopia on 7 October 2013. During that month, the School of Preparatory Education was founded with integrated resources of high quality, which became the first one among Chinese universities exclusively offering preparatory curricula for international students in China, aiming at consolidating relevant education as well as providing effective service.
II. Features and StrengthsA complete curriculum system with substantial content and specific purposes has been formed on the basis of over 50 years of preparatory education. It offers classes of different sizes, namely large group teaching, small group teaching as well as individual tutoring. Students can develop their integrated ability in language cognition, professional learning, cultural exchange and life adaptability within a limited and specified time period, which definitely helps to lay a solid foundation for their further study in top universities in China. There is a wide range of courses for different language levels and diversified demands. Students can choose elementary, intermediate and advanced courses with great flexibility in accordance with their Chinese language proficiency.
III. Admission ProgramsIn order to satisfy the various needs from students, the school offers two programs: essential courses (compulsory) and practical courses (compulsory). With the concept of task-based teaching as well as colorful activities, students can apply their knowledge and expose themselves to the essence of Chinese culture so as to effectively improve their practical language skills.
Those who have won scholarships from the Chinese government can directly access the two programs mentioned above. However, we strongly recommend students who acquire scholarships from other countries and who are self-supporting apply for both essential and practical courses at the same time in order to achieve the expected outcomes.
After accomplishing the required courses with qualified academic performance and achieving the entrance requirements of institutions of higher learning in China, students can proceed to the degree programs in various professions in our university or our joint training partners such as Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Nanjing University, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, and Beijing Wuzi University. The school will also offer necessary assistance in recommending other universities if needed.
It is worth noting that a special course is set for the guidance of entrance examination to top Chinese universities. The aim of this is to comprehensively help students to understand the examination while enhancing their relevant skills in a bid to finally realize their academic dreams.
