BachelorThe Mechanical Engineering program at UM-SJTU Joint Institute is fully supported by the ME Department of the UM and the ME School of the SJTU. It is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.
This program is built on a common science and engineering core. In the first 3 semesters all students will receive strict training in math, physics, chemistry, engineering basics and computer programming. These courses have been verified by the UM College of Engineering as equivalent to corresponding UM courses.
The Mechanical Engineering program provides students with an excellent foundation in the core technical competencies of the discipline: thermal and fluid sciences, solid mechanics and materials, and dynamics and control. Built upon these strengths is a very strong focus on application of these technical abilities through our design and manufacturing sequence. In addition, an array of technical electives is offered to enable students to tailor their mechanical engineering education to best suit their career goals.
Throughout the program students work with modern laboratory equipment and computer systems and they are exposed to the most recent analytical techniques and technological developments in their field. Students have many opportunities to associate with outstanding faculty, most of whom will be actively engaged in research and/or professional consulting.
There are numerous programs offered to enrich students’ education such as the Dual Degree program with UM, JI-Sequential Graduate Undergraduate Study program with UM, Enrichment & Study Abroad Programs and independent study opportunities with ME faculty. Our students are encouraged to seek an advanced degree if further specialization and a higher degree of competence in a particular area are desired.
General Qualifications
- Possess a High School Diploma or equivalent qualification (for Bachelor's Degree applicants) or Bachelor's Diploma (for Master's Degree applicants).
- Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens holding a valid foreign passport and must comply with the relevant regulations stipulated in "Document No. 12 (2020) of the Ministry of Education of the PRC."
- Must be in good physical and mental health.
- Applicants who are still under 18 as of September (per admission year) must provide a notarized Letter of Guarantee from their designated guardian in China.

1. The CSCA score is specifically required for Bachelor's Degree application. This requirement also varies for each university.

4. Language Proficiency Certificates:
- English Taught: IELTS with an overall score of 5.5-6.5 or TOEFL iBT 80-90 (requirements vary by university).
- Chinese Taught: HSK 4–6 (levels and minimum scores vary by major and university).
5. Academic Diplomas: High School Diploma (for Bachelor's Degree applicants) or Bachelor's Diploma (for Master's Degree applicants). Applicants who have not yet graduated must submit an official Pre-Graduation Statement from their high school or university. (bit.ly/PreGraduationLetter)
6. Academic Transcripts: High School Transcripts (for Bachelor's Degree) or University Transcripts (for Master's Degrees), compiled into a single file. 7. Two (2) Letters of Recommendation: Required from two high school teachers (for Bachelor's Degree) or two university professors/associate professors (for Master's Degrees). 9. Additional Requirements: Specific requirements vary by university. Examples include:

Note
- Documents 5 through 6 MUST be in English or Mandarin and officially legalized by the issuing institution (high school or university). Alternatively, the services of a sworn translator may be utilized.
- Please neatly scan each document into PDF format. The file size for each document must not exceed 128 MB (the passport photograph must adhere to the specific requirements listed above). All documents must then be uploaded to the system at www.greatwall.co.id.
